VPP Raises Concerns Over Law and Order Breakdown Impacting State Economy

VPP Meghalaya

Shillong, 17 Mar: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) stated on Sunday that the recurring incidents of IED blasts and the breakdown of law and order in the state would have an impact on the state economy and those who depend on tourism for their livelihood.

The spokesperson for VPP, Batskhem Marboh, stated that there are two categories of law and order — the first being violent law and order situations, while the second involves non-violent breakdowns. “The violent law and order situations are created by non-state actors,” he said.

Marboh emphasized that the bomb blasts witnessed in the state are worrying and could have repercussions on the economy and the livelihoods dependent on tourism.

“Such law and order situations were expected to happen, and it is the duty of the state government to maintain law and order and strengthen its intelligence gathering,” he added.

He pointed out that the MDA government has been guilty of disregarding the rule of law when it comes to tackling violent law and order situations.
