Ram Nath Kovind led panel on ‘one nation, one election’ submits reports to President Murmu

New Delhi, 14 Mar: The High-Level Committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind today submitted its report on ‘One Nation One Election’ to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The panel submitted the report, comprising 18,626 pages, after a research period of 191 days. It strongly advocates for simultaneous national and state polls.

Key among the proposals put forth by the Kovind Panel is the phased implementation of simultaneous elections, as reported by PTI.

The committee also recommends the introduction of Article 324A to enable simultaneous elections in panchayats and municipalities with the general elections of the House of the People and the State Legislative Assemblies.

In its first step, simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies can be held, followed by local body elections within a timeframe of 100 days in the second step.

The committee, headed by former President Ram Nath Govind, also includes the Home Minister Amit Shah, former Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Finance Commission Chairman NK Singh, former Lok Sabha Secretary-General Subhash Kashyap, and senior advocate Harish Salve.
